5. Tools and Templates

This module introduces five practical tools that support the Crisis Management Team (CMT) in managing complex, fast-moving crisis events effectively.

We begin with the Stakeholder Analysis Guide, which helps the CMT identify, prioritise, and communicate with key stakeholders such as employees, customers, and regulators ensuring timely, accurate, and targeted messaging that protects organisational trust and reputation.

The Contingency Planning Guide is then introduced as a framework for planning in real-time during a crisis. It encourages the team to anticipate evolving risks and visualise potential scenarios, helping maintain flexibility and informed decision-making under pressure.

We then examine the use of Event and Communication Logs, essential tools for tracking actions and communications. Digital formats are recommended for speed, accuracy, and searchability, ensuring no critical updates are lost.

The module also covers how to set up a Physical or Virtual Command Centre equipped with essential tools and supplies to support rapid activation and operational effectiveness in any crisis setting.

Finally, we explore the structured process for Communicating the Call-Out of the CMT, ensuring accountability, clarity, and responsiveness when assembling or rotating crisis team members and experts.

Together, these tools create a robust operational foundation for managing crises efficiently and confidently.
